This PowerPoint presentation addresses some of the issues faced by EAL children starting school. Whilst it was prepared primarily for those dealing with children starting at Secondary School, much of it is relevant for Primary School too. For many children, starting a new school can cause anxiety, but for EAL pupils it is often doubly daunting because of language and cultural barriers. The PowerPoint presentation raises aspects of induction which may not be automatically covered by schools and includes checklists for Tutors to help them prepare for EAL children joining their group.
