Traveller Education

International Week at Bourton-On-The-Water Primary School

How much of the Romani language do you know? Probably more than you think! If you've ever eaten a lollipop, talked to a pal or used a cosh, you've been talking Romanes.

Travellers were included in Bourton's International Celebration Week held in March. After a lesson about the history and cultures of different Traveller groups, children from years 5 and 6 made an illustrated Anglo-Romani dictionary. Together with literacy and other work done during the week, we hope to put this on display in the Hucclecote Centre in the Summer term. Shane O'Driscoll and Charlie Briars have worked hard over the whole term to produce a book about Stow Fair, which you can read on www.irespect.net
