Mosque Visits

For Gloucestershire schools only: If you want to arrange a visit to a mosque when your class is studying Islam, contact Salma Piperdy, READS, Tel: 01452 427261. Visits will usually be to the Jamia Al Kareem mosque, All Saints Road, Gloucester.

Your class would receive a guided tour of the mosque by a local Muslim representative, including a chance to see where congregational prayer takes place, the washing facilities (Wuda), a talk on Islam and the importance of the mosque, an opportunity for pupils to have their questions answered. Visits are usually arranged in the morning, Monday - Thursday, and would last for 45 mins to an hour. For the visit adults should be modestly dressed, long skirts or slacks/trousers, sleeved tops/shirts and head covering for the females; for the children try to encourage trousers/tights for girls and trousers (not shorts) for the boys and clean socks for all, as they will need to remove their shoes.
