NewsRefugee Week 2006: 19-25 June
'Refugee Week' is an annual National event that celebrates the positive contribution that refugees make to the UK, and promotes understanding about the reasons why people seek sanctuary. Many young people in the UK are confused about the issues surrounding refugees and don't always understand the reasons why people have to leave their countries. However, many refugees around the world are children and young people, just like them, but whose lives and families have been torn apart by war and conflict. Refugee Week 2006 provides a great opportunity to explore some of these issues in the classroom. Visit the Refugee Week website for more information, downloadable teaching resources, and details on how to obtain your copy of 'Global Communities' - free educational resource packs for Primary and Secondary schools: www.refugeeweek.org.uk |
