Theme: Islam and IslamophobiaReviews of useful resources for teaching and learning about Islam
WebsitesIslam Awareness Week
The aim of Islam Awareness Week is to raise awareness and remove misconceptions surrounding Britain's second largest faith group. An especially engaging feature of this website is the 'Virtual Classroom' - an excellent interactive resource for secondary schools, on Islam, where pupils can discover how Islam and Muslims have contributed so much to everyday living, and knowledge. Discover the Muslim Heritage in our World
This is an amazing site - with an incredible wealth of resources, stunningly presented, which provides a wealth of information on the vast range of academic areas in which Islamic wisdom has contributed to world culture. Lots of ideas for use in the curriculum, & a book to purchase, which would be well worth investing in! Books and ResourcesMuslim Council of Britain: Books for Schools - Primary Resource Pack
This is an excellent resource, providing high quality materials (books, artefacts, audio-tapes, card model kits, posters) and project packs with excellent teaching ideas and plans. The project packs cover a range of topics, including Hajj, the Qu'ran, Ramadan, Eid, prayer, and Islam and the Arts. For more information, contact Salma Piperdy, at READS Tel. 01452 427261, to arrange to view the resource pack. Audio ResourcesNight of Remembrance
Commemorating 20 years of Islamic Schools in Britain, this charity event at the Royal Albert Hall, October 2003, saw Yusuf Islam joined by friends from around the world to celebrate this momentous occasion - and share the universal message of peace. The Colours of Islam
A delightful resource for KS1 & KS2. This CD contains a collection of songs that celebrates Allah's signs to mankind, the diversity of believers around the world, and more. Among a varied selection of songs, it features 'Sing, Children of the World' - a multilingual presentation that reminds us that all children of the world are pure of faith and should be remembered in our prayers!
