'Cattle Country' Outing for Czech Roma Families

On a weekend in July a trip for mainly Czech and Slovak, mostly Roma, families was organised to Cattle Country Adventure Park. A number of schools were represented. About 70 people including young babies and grandparents excitedly boarded the coach carrying large picnic bags.

Everyone had a wonderful day, relaxing and chatting together whilst plunging down drop slides, playing in ball pits and shooting along zip wires. The hot weather enabled many of the children to put on swim wear and have a lovely time splashing in the pool! There was even a runaway train incident when the train left the station with passengers but minus its driver, much to the amusement of our children!

At home time, nobody wanted to leave but we had a very patient coach driver! The question on everyone's lips was - 'When could we do this again?'

As the organiser for both events I would like to say a huge 'Thank You' to the Gloucestershire Children's Fund, in particular to Alexia, who financed the events, and to my many colleagues who volunteered to help. Although these events were purely social we all agreed that through the fun we had together, many barriers have been broken down and much trust has been built.
