Dean Close and Cheltenham Ladies College - Working in Partnership
This year we have, again been fortunate to have had the support of students from both Dean Close School and Cheltenham Ladies College. With this partnership, the 6th form students have volunteered their services to assist our bilingual pupils every week in Brockworth Enterprise School, Pittville Comprehensive and Tredworth Juniors. Over the time they have engaged in a range of project work and in the process have built up some meaningful relationships. The pupils have enjoyed their time learning English and have felt well supported and valued.
At the end of the year, Dean Close once again invited our bilingual pupils to their school to share their sporting facilities. It was a wonderful day with pupils being transported from St. Peter's High School, Brockworth Enterprise, Pittville, Bournside and St Benedict's. Everyone exchanged thoughts, jokes, anecdotes and experiences and the atmosphere was exceptional with a wealth of languages being spoken and a great deal of enjoyment being shared by over 100 people. The pupils were coached in tennis, hockey, cricket and football and later many took advantage of the indoor swimming pool. Transport was arranged for all the schools and, by the end of the day, some firm friendships had been formed and some talented sports people noted.
This event is one of the highlights of the year and, the feedback from participating pupils is always positive and rewarding. Many thanks to our hosts, to organiser Rod Pellereau, to Ro Kaye at CLC and to all those who took part ... including READS staff. We look forward to another fruitful year and are delighted to be working together again.
