Gloucester Carnival 2006
For the third year running, St. Paul's CofE Primary School were fortunate to borrow the fabulous costumes belonging to Nottinghill's Maghony Carnival organisers and thus, about 70 adults and children excitedly took part in Gloucester City Carnival Procession on Saturday 23 July.
Amanda Barns, EMA teacher for READS, who teaches at the school and coordinated the event said, "This year we invited other local schools to join us so it became a good way of making new friends. Also, the children enjoyed talking to the black youngsters who came from London to help dress and facepaint everyone. The costumes are fantastic and quite complicated to put on and wear so by the time the walk is over, most people are exhausted especially as participants are encouraged to dance their way round the streets to the accompaniment of very loud music! It's all great fun and the children are pleased with their medals.
As one dad commented: "Once you get over the embarrassment of walking through Gloucester dressed as a pink flower, it's great to hear the crowds clapping and to see so many smiling faces!"
