Traveller Education

Bromesberrow St Mary's

Bromesberrow St Mary's C. of E. School is a small rural school with a high proportion of Traveller pupils. Every year the Key Stage 2 pupils go on a residential week in North Wales during the summer term. The Traveller pupils have never gone on the week away due to the parents' concerns about their children's safety. The Headteacher, Bronwyn Mabey was concerned that the Traveller pupils were missing out on all the rich experiences of the residential.

She gave it some thought and this year has booked a residential week away at PGL in Ross-on-Wye. She has arranged with PGL for the Traveller pupils to attend a full taster day during the week, after which their parents will collect them. She is hoping that this might be the first step towards the Traveller pupils attending for the whole week.
