Hungarian Links
Being a new arrival is an even more difficult situation for pupils who find they are the only pupils in their school who speak their language!
READS staff endeavour to make links between isolated language speakers in different schools throughout the County. A recent example is between Hungarian pupils. A sixthformer from Beaufort has been regularly visiting a new arrival from Hungary in Sharpness School, and supporting her bilingually.
One afternoon in November, all the different Hungarian pupils (and some parents) met together for the first time. The schools were: Beaufort, Bishops College, GLOSCAT, Sharpness, Churchdown, and Heywood. They have exchanged addresses and emails, and want to meet again, possibly at Tintos Hungarian restaurant in Stroud. It was a very successful occasion, enjoyed by all!
