Working in Partnership
Bilingual pupils from 8 different Gloucestershire Secondary schools had another fantastic Citizenship day at Dean Close School, Cheltenham. The 50 youngsters from all parts of the world gathered together to celebrate language, diversity, commonality and support of each other.
This partnership between schools has so many beneficial outcomes and all those involved enjoy meeting, sharing and enjoying a common language of laughter and teamwork. The pupils from Bishops' College, Beaufort, Brockworth Enterprise, St. Peter's, Churchdown, Christ College, Bournside and Pittville engaged in outdoor activities, drawing, badge-making, Armenian Ballroom dancing, Chinese fan dancing, African Drumming and, of course, International football games. They were hosted by students from Dean Close, were provided with a fabulous barbeque and the day ended with an "Ice-cream Parlour". Barriers of every description were broken down. This truly was a day of friendship, respect and partnership.
Our partnership, which has been running now for a number of years, includes weekly visits from Dean Close students who engage in support for our bilingual pupils. This year we have 3 students assisting at Bishops' College on Tuesday afternoons and 4 students each in both Brockworth Enterprise and Bournside School on Thursday afternoons. The peer group support is invaluable and much is learnt on both sides.
