Fun was had by all at Dunalley School's 'World Day' in June 2008. The aim of the day was to celebrate languages and cultures from around the world.
Reception went on an 'African Safari' tracking and listing all the animals they could hear. Helped by parents, they enjoyed comparing people, climate and animals from Africa and the UK.
KS1 learnt about India with the help of an Indian parent. They found out about Indian history and culture and had fun trying on traditional costumes and tasting food. They learnt some Gujarati words and made flags. One child talked about his visit to India and meeting members of his family. Everyone had the opportunity to find out about Japan following a visit from a Japanese teacher. They were very adventurous trying some unusual 'fish sweets' and food and also designed their own kimonos and made fans.
KS2 had a main focus on themes that link all children and how they spend their free time. There were excellent resource boxes from the Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum with fantastic recycled toys. The children were amazed at how ingenious the toys were and used some of these ideas to design and make their own. This theme showed how effectively the developing world recycles in amazing ways! They also had the opportunity to play Egyptian games and discovered a lot about China and the Olympics following a visit from a Chinese teacher. Food from Egypt, China and India was tasted and some children enjoyed drinking green tea and using chopsticks.
The school gained the full 'International School Award' in July 2008.
