Eid -ul-Adha

by Fatima Choksi

This is a powerpoint presentation of what Eid –ul-Adha is and a brief introduction to how children at Tredworth Infant School celebrated it.

(Most of the children who took part did not have permission to be photographed so the photos included are from the internet and not of the Tredworth School children.)

This is what we did:

  • Children came to school in their beautiful Eid clothes.  A parent  volunteered to describe and name the different styles and embroidery on the clothes.
  • Children talked about how they spent their special day and the presents they received.
  • Children brought in delicious finger foods to share with their teachers and classmates and had an Eid-Party.
  • Some girls decorated their hands and palms with henna (mendhi).  Children in the class had a go at designing their own henna patterns on blank hand outlines using an orange or red felt tip (henna stains orange or red when dry)
  • Design and make Eid cards with geometric patterns or mosques. (there are no animate/human pictures in Islamic art)
  • Eid-ul-Adha display was made for the main hall.
