INTRODUCTION

The following lesson would fit in well with the true stories compiled by Dee Russell-Thomas - the theme of the lesson is ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP AND NEW BRITONS.

Starter: Discuss the meaning of the term citizenship and the meaning of the term active citizenship.

Objective: To understand some of the debate surrounding the granting of British citizenship to fellow students’ families.

LESSONS

• Lesson 1 - Read the information together, taking whole class discussion as it occurs. Then students should answer the questions that follow the text with written work. The plenary will involve discussion of the written work.
