EXTENSION ACTIVITIES/HOMEWORK FOR GROUPS OR INDIVIDUALS 6. Look at the life
of Avatar
Nath Duggal (p134-145). You will construct an empathy graph
about Mr. Duggal's life. [If you cannot remember
how to do this, then check back
to the Chinese exercise we did and use
that as a model - link to explanation]. I have given you some dates,
if you read and think carefully, then you should be able to add some
more
dates.
You
will
also need a
key - use this alphabet of Mr Duggal's life. 7. Study pages Harjit Singh Gill’s life (p146-152). You will work out the odd one out of the lists below and say why:
Now look at pages 154–155 and write a script for Manny Masih for a radio programme for the Asian Christian community; then write a radio script for a piece about Gymnation and its place in the wider scheme of things. 9. EXTRA WORK FOR FAST FINISHERS a) Study this statement from Umara Hussein on page 166 – “A half of me is Pakistani and a half of me is English.” It is this dynamic of change for individuals that brings about wider social change - and the creation of a new multicultural, diverse England/Britain/Gloucester. Mainstream culture changes with the impact of minority cultures and the minority cultures alter too. This obviously creates tensions and problems for some people and for some generations – but we all need to solve problems together peacefully. Then we can create a vibrant harmonious Britain.
b) Construct a time graph of Lalit Chandra Dandiker’s life (p167–168), labelling his achievements, or using a key. c)
List 10 bullet points to show why Mohammed
Hansdat (p169) would be so suitable
for this oral history project. What was one of the most important questions
involved in this project? Optional Story telling exercise for the whole class Study pages 130-135 about the Sikh Panjabi community. Look at the story telling exercise used in the Chinese work and use that model for this activity. |
