GROUP A - Studies Mahmood Patel’s story.

(a.) Read together Mahmood Patel’s story (p23–24).

(b.) On sugar paper, place a world map and a map of Britain. Show Mahmood's father's migrations and travels. Then add Mahmood's travels (p25). Add dates, if you can.

(c.) How did Mahmood's father "sell" Gloucester to his friend?

(d.) Show, how despite the love between parents and children, there was a gap. (bottom p26 – top p27)

(e.) Show how migration created cultural confusion for Mahmood and how it created tensions between father and mother.

(f.) Study p28 and write an imaginary diary entry for Mahmmod.

(g.) Why was his dad's gravestone inscribed "Gloucester Cha-Cha"?

(h.) Describe and explain Mahmood's experiences of racism – p30.

(i.) What are Mahmood's views on stereotyping?

(j.) Extension – what would be the justification for Mahmood's father's insistence on his sons doing the same things?
