GROUP C will study Mahmood Moolla's story and the following work.

Read Mahmood Moolla's story (p39-42).

(a) Read the bottom of p38 to the top 2 paragraphs, page 39. What are your views - would you view the use of a minaret as 'noise pollution'?

(b) Read about the Islamic Secondary School for Girls (p45).

A multicultural society involves

  1. protecting a separate culture's difference and heritage
  2. mixing and matching in a new culturally diverse mix.

What are your views on separate schools for separate faiths and/or single sex schools?

(c) Now read about the Roshni Asian Women's Project (p46).

Design a press release for a newspaper to show the importance of this project.

(d) Now list 4 reasons why Salim Ismail Kholwadia is so important.

(e) Now read about Gulam Musa and the Shia Muslim Community (p48-49).

Firstly write a few lines about the Shia Muslim Community underneath that heading. Then list 8 points about Gulam Musa, showing his importance.

(f) Extension work: Find the address of the shop in Eastgate Street that is now a Chinese takeaway but used to double up as a shop and a Shiite Muslim school and a prayer room. Ask your teacher for help in trying to trace the history of that shop. (You could probably use trade directories from the record office or reference library)

Now hand in your work for display and mounting
