GROUP D will study the Hindu Community.

First read about the Hindu Community on pages 50–61.

(a) Read the first 4 paragraphs from page 51 and write an imaginary diary entry for an Asian forced to leave Kenya.

(b) Then read the next 3 paragraphs and design a timeline to show early Asian immigration into Gloucestershire. Then look at the last paragraph on page 52 and add 3 reasons for the growth of the Asian population.

(c) Why is Patel such a popular name?

(d) Now design a spider diagram to show COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS – use page 53.

Then answer this question – what do you think should be done to help solve these problems? Discuss this too.

(e) Now read the first 3 paragraphs on p54 and list and describe the 3 main problems faced by the Hindu community; also show how these problems were overcome.

Then brainstorm – list and explain your solutions to the problems of racist attacks. Discuss this with others.

(f) Now write a newspaper report based on p5557. The theme of the article is MULTICULTURAL GLOUCESTER: see how one culture by protecting its heritage, can let other cultures learn and join in – there is a CROSS-OVER OF CULTURE.

(g) Now look at p58–61. List all the ways in which funds helped provide a new Hindu Temple. How does this funding show a multicultural society at work?

(h) How does the community centre also help in building a multicultural Gloucester?

(i) Now design some bar charts to show the size of the Hindu community in the county.

(j) Find and describe some evidence that shows how multiculturalism can promote generational problems (p60–61).

(k) Find and describe evidence to show how multiculturalism can provide a model of peaceful harmony (p61).

Now hand in your work for display and mounting.
