GROUP E will study Ramjibhi Popat’s story and the following work

First read Ramjibhi Popat’s story on pages 62-66.

(a) The first Hindus to settle in the county came from where?

(b) When did the first Hindu from India arrive in Gloucestershire?

(c) Design a labelled time line for Mr. Popat’s life from 1926 – 1956.

(d) Now divide your page in 2 and head one side POSTIVE EXPERIENCES IN GLOUCESTERSHIRE and head the other NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES IN GLOUCESTERSHIRE.

Then use pages 64–66 to fill in your entries. Then show how Mr. Popat’s life reflects the multicultural experience of cultural mix and match.

GROUP E will also study Maniben Jasubhai Patel’s story on pages 66–69.

(e) Use pages 66–67 to work out when Naren and Savitaben were born.

(f) Find an atlas and try to work out the approximate average speed of the END liner.

(g) What is the historical experience of Mr. Patel?

(h) What is the historical significance of Maniben Jasubhai Patel?

(i) Even though she found travelling to Cheltenham with her children ‘overwhelming’ what is the evidence that suggests she found Cheltenham welcoming?

Now present your findings on sugar paper for a whole class display.
