INTRODUCTION

We have created a series of activities/questions for the book Our Untold Stories - The Asian Community in Gloucestershire. All the material from the book is also presented online here at iRespect.net

Here is a suggested framework for their use... but feel free to restructure this material as suits your teaching groups and timescales. Please send us feedback.

These activites have been designed as a whole class project, involving group work and individual work. We estimate there is 4 to 6 weeks work in this module depending on age ability, lesson length and homework.

There are extension tasks within the work. Differentiation could occur through specifically allocating specific tasks to specific groups or through ensuring that groups are fully mixed ability to begin with. Work could be for whole school display.

A FRAMEWORK FOR TACKLING THIS MODULE

The class should be divided into 8 groups.

• All groups should undertake activities 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and optionally 10.
• Groups should then individually tackle one of the group activities A-H.
  IT IS IMPORTANT THAT EACH GROUP SEES AND SHARES THE WORK OF OTHER GROUPS’ AT THE END – THE OVERVIEW IS NECESSARY - THAT IS A VITAL PART OF THE LEARNING AND A VITAL PART OF THE TEAMWORK. THEREFORE, IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO PRESENT WORK FOR DISPLAY.
• Extension Work is based on activities 6, 7, 8 and 9.

Activity 5 - A mystery regarding the Pakistani Community
Activity 6 - An empathy graph

Activity 8 - Multicultural society and radio scripts
Activity 9 - Thinking about the authors
Activity 10 - Photographic analysis exercise

EVALUATION / FEEDBACK
